Tuesday March 2nd 2017 marked the beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss’ 113th birthday. To commemorate his contribution to literacy it is also Read Across America Day. Delaware State University celebrated this important literary day by focusing on some of our most important students –the children in the Lab School. In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, the lab students hosted a party in honor of Dr. Seuss. It was attended by DSU’s own President, Dr. Williams and our Provost, Dr. Delauder. The Governor John Carney also made a special appearance.
The governor delighted the children by reading the classic Hop on Pop to them. Governor Carney’s reading was animated and engaging. The children loved it. After the cake and presents were handed out, as a Read Aloud Delaware volunteer, I had the privilege of reading on on one with the children. They were so pleased to receive their own copy of Hop on Pop that most of them wanted to read it again. It was a delightful event that helped to foster a love of reading in our youngest students. Thank you to all who made it possible!
